Tackle it Tuesday: Figuring out a daily schedule

February 3rd, 2009 by Kristi Stephens

My husband has started teasing me that I’m addicted to the computer. My daughter often pretends that she’s working on a computer for her “Bible study.” In all honesty, I know that I need to do better with this. Between my Bible study prep, blogging, checking email and facebook, I have been on the computer WAY too much. All signs point to my need to have a better schedule for both myself and my kids!

So today, I don’t really have a housework-y project I’m tackling per se (although the ever present laundry/ ironing mountain is always looming in the back of my mind). I just need to iron out a daily routine. We have the semblance of a routine I’ve been working on for the last week or so, and I need to cement that more and write it out on a poster or put it in the pocket chart or something. Here’s what my ideal is:

8:00am Breakfast
9:00am Word world is on (a big landmark in our day!)and LB takes his nap
9:30am “Reading time”
10:00am Snacktime and puzzle/ game together
10:30am LB is up, free play for kids/ housework for mom!
11:30am Sometimes we will watch another episode of Word World, depending on how the morning is going!
12:00pm Lunch
1:00pm Naptime for both; Quiet time, blogging, Bible study prep
3:30pm Snacktime and DVD of their choice; usually I am finishing up my computer work while they watch it
4:00pm Free play/ housework/ starting dinner prep

What I want to do is start being more intentional about that after nap period of time… the late afternoon is always our roughest part of the day. I’m trying to finish up stuff that I had been trying to get done and get dinner started, the kids want my attention and are sometimes “fragile” and clingy after their naps. Now that LB is getting older I’d like to have some planned things to engage them, centers if you will, while I’m working.

So, that’s what I’m tackling. I am definitely open to the wise input of others who have done this themselves! Any suggestions??
