FYFS: Hiding God’s Word in our Hearts!

January 7th, 2010 by Kristi Stephens

Today is Day Four of Fresh Year, Fresh Start! We have been thrilled with the feedback we’ve received from this series. It’s so encouraging to know that this has been helpful and that God is using it in your lives!

Today, Sandra from Heart for Him is sharing the real heart of Scripture memory and meditation.

Scripture memory and Biblical meditation are topics we’ve discussed a few times here at Run the Earth, Watch the Sky. Here are some posts to refer to if you’d like a little extra food for thought on this topic:

*Back when we were looking at the book of Joshua, we discussed what Biblical meditation really means, and how God uses it to renew our minds.

*Need a system to help you start memorizing consistently? Try this!

*Teaching our children God’s Word is one of our biggest jobs as Christian parents. We discussed the challenge more in-depth in Radical Discipleship.

*Don’t know how to start teaching kids Scripture? Start here for some practical ideas. If you’d like to specifically work on the 10 Commandments with your kids, here’s an easy way to do it!

More important than HOW we do Scripture memory is WHY we do it. Check out this sampling of what Sandra shared today:

I love “quick and easy.” I love “do this in five steps.” I love “do this in three steps” even more.

But today we are talking about Scripture memory and meditation. I’d love to tell you that there’s a quick fix. But in my experience, there isn’t.

But many things worth while aren’t easy. Marriage isn’t easy. Parenting isn’t easy. Being a church member isn’t easy. But that doesn’t mean we quit.

I’d love to give you “Five Easy Steps to Memorize Scripture,” but before you can discipline your mind, you need to discipline the heart.
