In case you hadn’t noticed…

My blog has been on the backburner lately. Rightly so, as this is a huge time of transition for our family and I have less time available right now to invest in frequent writing.

The lives of women have many seasons. As the snow begins to fall outside calling us to bundle up and snuggle and make our “nests” warm and welcoming for our families as we observe this season of Advent, I know that this is a season of quiet for me – a time to withdraw a bit from outside demands on my time and focus on making this time as joyous and stable for my family as possible.

So, as you have probably noticed, I will not be posting frequently for a few months. I may post here and there through the Christmas season, update you when #3 makes his arrival (hopefully SOON!), and possibly check in occasionally with devotional thoughts. I’m planning to put the Revelation series on the shelf for a bit, until I can come back and devote the attention and time that such a series demands. I’ll also be writing now and then over at Scripture Dig, so I’ll let you know when my posts are live on that site. I will also keep the facebook page updated now and then, so be sure to join us there if you haven’t already!

So, please pardon my absence as I step away to put my full attention into where it needs to be. Hopefully this season of quiet will melt away with the frost in early spring!

In the meantime, here are some posts to get you started if you’ve been wanting something to read. :)

  • Ann Voskamp’s “What a Mother Must Sacrifice” – frequently on my mind as I work at home!
  • I hope that you are already a subscriber to Scripture Dig – we’ll be spending the weeks of Advent focusing on Jesus together!
  • Please “poke around” through old posts, series, and free downloadable resources – there are a handful of posts of Christmas reflections that I loved writing last year; you can find them listed here.

Thanks for your prayers and patience – may God richly bless you as you prepare to celebrate His first coming and look forward to His second!

The Relevant Conference starts tomorrow – some of my favorite online friends will all be gathered in one place, and I so wish that I was going to be there!

But, my girls Teri Lynne and Sandra aren’t leaving me out in the cold…

“Flat Kristi” is going to Relevant!!

Hee hee… thanks, friends, for making my day! :)

Minding our Emotional Modesty

Modesty. The word, for me, typically conjures up mental images of women wearing turtlenecks, floor length skirts (with no slit, of course), and knee length socks.

I’m kidding. Sort of.

While we might all differ slightly on our interpretation of what, exactly, modest dressing is, we all understand that there are certain things that are appropriate and inappropriate in various situations. I might not be wearing a floor length skirt with coordinating turtleneck to church, but I also am not going to wear my swimming suit.

I dress modestly because it is a protection for me, shows respect for the unique relationship I have with my husband, honors the God who made my body, and guards against inappropriate thoughts and behavior with others.

Lately I have been pondering an interesting phenomenon I see everywhere in the online world – facebook status updates, tweets, and blog posts are brimming with something I call “emotional immodesty.” These online venues have given us an uncensored outlet, a place to share things that often should not be said, with a veneer of privacy as we sit alone with our laptop or iphone and share our every thought with thousands of strangers. To make this even trickier, we often do it and call it “being real,” as though it was a virtue.

Blog Hop 2010!

August 5th, 2010 by Kristi Stephens

Hello, new friends! Come on in and make yourself comfy in my ‘virtual living room!’

I’m a wife and mom who loves the Lord Jesus Christ.  I’ve frequently been told that I am an “old soul” – I tend to be a serious thinker, but I absolutely love a good laugh!  From time to time I’ll blog about homemaking, our philosophy of homeschooling, marriage, and other “life stuff”… but the real heartbeat of my blog is the Word of God.

I’m addicted to teaching the Word of God!

I have a Bible degree from Cedarville University, and while I was passionate about what I was learning, I really had no idea how God would use it in my life.  I thought I’d be writing curriculum, working in a church, serving as a missionary, or some other “obvious” ministry path.

Instead, I am home full time with my kiddos.  I have found that serving my husband and family is a high calling and great ministry in and of itself. God has also allowed me the privilege of teaching women the Word of God – in our church, in our home… and from my ‘online living room.’  I long for my readers to walk with me through deeper discovery of the richness of Scripture and be stunned by the bigness of our God!

If you are new to the Bible, join the journey and learn!  I would love to help you work through any questions you may have and help you gain a bigger perspective of God’s story in Scripture.  If you are a long-time Jesus-follower, welcome!  Meeting like-minded women and sharpening one another has been such a treasured part of blogging for me!  If you’re somewhere in between but feel tugged to learn more… jump on for the ride.  Questions are absolutely welcome – we are all works in progress!

Right now we are continuing a series through the book of Revelation – I hope you will consider subscribing in a reader or by email so you don’t miss a thing!  I’d also love to chat with you on twitter or facebook!

Running in the path of God’s commands is not always glamorous or easy.  But it offers riches we can’t fully comprehend.

Have a great time at the blog hop – may we spread the aroma of Christ everywhere we go, even in the blogosphere!
