Things I Love Thursday: Pandora

November 12th, 2009 by Kristi Stephens

A while back a “computery” friend of ours was telling us about pandora.com - a free internet radio site where you basically build your own station based on music that you like or don’t like.

Sounded good, didn’t look at it. Because I’m weird like that.

Yesterday I was chatting with my friend Brooke on twitter. She was checking out Pandora and it rang a bell from my previous conversation. With the extra push, I finally checked it out.

I LOVE IT.

I have listened to it for hours and hours now… and wow it is hitting the spot. My personal station was built by selecting Chris Rice (shocking, I know) as the starting point for my station. Chris Rice, Fernando Ortega, Chris Tomlin, Third Day, Mercy Me, and more of my favorites have been filling my house with loveliness…

Cleaning is a whole lot more appealing with good music to listen to. ;) You can listen to my station here or build your own at pandora.com.

Magic Eraser, if only you really could do magic…

October 1st, 2009 by Kristi Stephens

I do love Magic Erasers. I stopped buying them because I wondered what was in them that made them so magical… probably not non-toxic nor earth-friendly. :)

But as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures.

My son is a maniac. Oh, how I love him. But he is a maniac.

In the past week he tried his hand at decorating:

And apparently he was skimming through my new book from John MacArthur and felt he should highlight some key points:

Oh, and did I mention that he broke the window in our mudroom door by line-driving a small plastic ball with major-league skill?

That door is original to our 1914 house, so I figure it has been there for 95 years. 95 years – 2 world wars, the Great Depression… and my 19 month old son demolishes it with a small plastic ball from his “pound n’ roll.”

Anyway.

This week necessitated a trip to refill my supply of magic erasers. (Yay for the $1.00 off coupon in the 8/30 paper insert!) :) I bought two boxes. Call me a cynic, but I don’t really think those will be the last marks I scrub off the wall.

And by the way – I LOVE magic erasers for getting the textured bottom of the bathtub clean!

Now, if only the magic eraser could magically fix the window…

And maybe dinner.

Sometimes you just need to laugh…

September 17th, 2009 by Kristi Stephens

If you haven’t picked up on it, I tend to be a rather intense person. Sometimes I wish I could just stop thinking so much about e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. One cannot take life seriously all the time. And so, I do love me some stupid humor.

Come laugh with me. :)

This SNL sketch makes me laugh just thinking about it!

Tim Hawkins cracks me up:

…and if only I could find a clip of 30 Rock with Dr. Spaceman talking about diabetes…

Laughter is good medicine! :) What do you love to laugh with?

My favorite part of Amish country

This weekend, as I mentioned, we were in Amish country at the camp my husband and I used to counsel at. I love being down there – it’s beautiful, peaceful, smells faintly of horse manure… and my most favorite bulk food store is there!

If I was going to reenact the story of that girl who lived in Walmart (come on… you know what I’m talking about, right?) and could pick any store to live in, I would want to live here. All the food comes in these uniform clear plastic bags and tubs with uniform blue labels – the labels even have a Bible verse on them to make it extra quaint.

But hands down, this is why I love this particular store.

Oh, yes. That is a custom built cabinet that takes up the entire wall. Each spice or herb has it’s own little compartment (obviously in alphabetical order!!), with a label of what’s inside on the glass-front door. If heaven has a spice cabinet, surely it looks like this! :)

And it doesn’t hurt that you can get big tubs of herbs and spices for $.50. Yes, please. I’ll be moving in soon.
